Vivienne Westwood inspired top
Love designers, live frugal
I made this top a few years ago after falling in love with the Vivienne Westwood design. I can’t afford a VW piece (although I check out used stuff and may own something one day!) but this is as close as it gets…. From looking at the pics for a blouse online, I dug out a piece of fabric, and set to work draping pieces of an old sheet to figure out how to get the same effects.
Very happy with the result!
Love you Vivienne

I made this top a few years ago after falling in love with Vivienne Westwood designs, especially her quirky feminine blouses and tops. I can’t afford a real VW piece although I wouldn’t rule out owning one some day! For now this is as close as it gets, but it’s a great start. As I looked at archive pictures of a VW blouse online, I followed the grain line and figured out the draping pattern. I dug out a piece of fabric, and set to work draping on my dressmakers doll until the effect was nearly identical. Fast-forward a few hours and the basic pieces were ready; it wasn’t as hard as I thought.
Firstly, I sketched the rough shape I could see for the waist band. I needed this to understand the overall length and width it would require, before choosing the right scrap of fabric.
Second, I made a toile with an old sheet.
I’m very happy with the result so I’ll be doing more of this!
Love you Vivienne and will keep following you!
