Fabric Stash Woes!  #2

So I’m currently serving out a long-term, self-imposed ban on buying fabric. Only in exceptional circumstances (specific need and garanteed to be used immediately and not stored for years on end….) will I allow myself to enter a fabric shop.  I don’t think I’m alone in having a slightly embarrassing fabric stash, that has been sitting for years with little to no attention. that I would need a lifetime to get through. I have very little free time to dedicate to the sport of sewing, but I’m hoping to find the time.

What will become of it all when I die??

This problem and also the limited space at home has given me extra determination to reduce the load.

I sometimes wonder what will become of it all when I die! That spurs me on, and I brainstorm ways to use it up.

I’ve been wanting to share ideas for a while and I’m doing this also for myself. I’m finally putting pen to paper and photos to ideas…. For anyone who is in a similar predicament here are my suggestions. I will add photos and info as and when I have time. I’ll also go into more detail about how I’ve done some of these things.

Journal your ideas

If you’re like me you get lots of ideas and inspiration, but rarely in the right moment. I’m trying out new ways to keep these fresh so when I can sew, I don’t waste time deciding what to start on. Here’s some ways that might also make a difference for you:

  • shout out to Google Assistant / Alexa when the idea comes to mind – get her to put it on your sewing ideas list!
  • keep a notepad on your phone for ideas on the go (or directly update the same Google/Alexa list)
