Vivienne Westwood blouse

Vivienne Westwood worship! This is an ode to VW…oh ok, I blatantly stole this design. I don’t even pretend…she is so fab and her art is awesome. Wearable art!

I made this with a single metre of fabric, which restricted the size and length of the belt but I made do! It definitely turned out better than I could have expected, although I had some quarms about it around the twist at the shoulder that I wasn’t happy about. Some imperfection made me shy away from it and kind of avoid it in my wardrobe until I pulled it out a few years later, failed to see the problem and fell in love with it again! (Yeah I’m about 10 years older now than I was in these photos!)

This made me realise how many times I’ve got rid of things I’ve made due to having an over critical eye! There are so many things I got rid of for things smaller than problems you get in store bought stuff. Time and experience has taught me this. We are so hard on ourselves sometimes.

I finished the hem with bias tape to keep it as long as possible on the fabric side. The wrong side of the belt is also a different fabric and I stiffened it with interfacing to make sure it didn’t easily scrunch and become a thin pathetic line. The original one from VW was big, wide and lush, and I was limited as this was the only slice of fabric left and I just couldn’t picture it with contrasting belt. I interfaced it just where it goes round the body and then its just soft and smooth for the bow.

I’ve tried to find an old pic of the blouse I copied but I only found this pinterest image from a blog that no longer exists:

Isn’t it fabulous though??? I haven’t found a pic to show the back, but I felt I got it pretty much down. Some imperfections are neatly hidden by the belt!

Does anyone have a pic of the original Vivienne Westwood blouse? She used such amazing colours and fabrics!
